LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy in Indianapolis — A Space Where You Belong
Finding a therapist who truly gets it — who won’t make you explain yourself, question your identity, or feel like you have to educate them — makes all the difference. At Indiana Counseling & Resilience Center, you don’t have to do that work here.
We are a fully LGBTQ+ affirming practice. That means every therapist on our team is committed to creating a space that is safe, respectful, and genuinely welcoming — for queer, trans, nonbinary, bisexual, gay, lesbian, and questioning individuals of all ages.
You Deserve a Therapist Who Affirms Who You Are
LGBTQ+ individuals face unique stressors that many therapists simply aren’t equipped to address. Minority stress, family rejection, discrimination, navigating identity in a world that doesn’t always feel safe — these experiences are real, and they take a toll.
You might be coming to therapy for. . .
Anxiety, depression, or trauma connected to your identity or experience
Family conflict or rejection related to coming out
Navigating gender identity or gender dysphoria
Relationship challenges unique to LGBTQ+ partnerships
Internalized shame or the impact of growing up in non-affirming environments
Life transitions — coming out, transitioning, chosen family dynamics
Simply wanting a therapist who won’t make your identity the problem
Whatever brings you here, you are welcome exactly as you are.
What “Affirming” Actually Means at ICRC
We use your pronouns and chosen name — always, without question
We don’t pathologize your identity — being queer, trans, or nonbinary is not a problem to be solved
We understand minority stress — we recognize how systemic discrimination, family rejection, and social stigma affect mental health
We don’t require you to educate us — our therapists are trained and informed, so you can focus on healing
We are trauma-informed — many LGBTQ+ clients carry trauma, and we’re equipped to work with it using EMDR, Brainspotting, CBT, and other evidence-based approaches
Therapy Approaches We Use
We tailor our approach to your specific needs and goals. Modalities our therapists draw from include:
Gottman Method — for communication, emotional connection and managing conflicts in relationships
EMDR — for processing trauma related to rejection, discrimination, or past harm
CBT — for anxiety, depression, and challenging internalized negative beliefs
DBT — for emotion regulation and building distress tolerance
Brainspotting — for body-held trauma and experiences that are hard to put into words
LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy can help you:
Process emotions and experiences
Release anxiety and stress
Improve relationship communication and connection
Work through depression or loss
Meet your goals!

notice meaningful shifts after just a few sessions. Others doing deeper trauma work may benefit from a longer course of treatment. At ICRC, we check in regularly about how the process is going and adjust our approach based on your experience and goals — there is no preset timeline.
Is therapy covered by insurance?
ICRC is an out-of-network provider, which means we do not bill insurance directly. However, we offer courtesy billing: we provide the documentation you need to submit a claim to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many clients receive partial reimbursement this way. We’re happy to answer questions about this process when you reach out.
Can therapy be done online or virtually?
Yes. Many clients work with ICRC therapists via telehealth. Virtual therapy is effective for many people — especially for those with scheduling limitations, distance, or a preference for working from their own space. Clients may choose to engage in therapy at our office, virtually, or a combination of both depending on what works best for them.
